back at school again
Mar. 31st, 2002 04:45 pmit's so weird being back at the dorms again...i got so used to being at home. i had a nice break...didn't feel like writing about any of it, really, so here i am catching up right now. i think i'll just summarize my break by day.
thursday, the 21st: nik, cin, and i hung out for a bit. then, nik and i went to her house for dinner and to the movies. we wanted to see "monsoon wedding," but the showing we were going for was sold out, so we saw "kissing jessica stein" instead. it was quite cute and amusing...very funny movie. i also liked the soundtrack...it was all fox trot...very nice.
friday, the 22nd: my mom and i went to my sister's to babysit rachel, since her nanny got sick. my niece is so great! she's the funniest baby! i had a great time with her...she doesn't quite talk, but she mumbles and says separate words. she's just a doll...and she was very good and friendly and happy. she even remembers me! when we got home, i went dancing at arthur murray, for the first time since winter break. it was so great! i miss everyone there so much! i really missed dancing tango and fox trot with photis...no one here can dance those dances the way he can...especially tango...although jon marion comes close. and it was very nice to see paul again. he's quite a character.
saturday, the 23rd: let's see...what did i do? oh, i remember. in the morning, i went to work to help my mom out with some book-keeping. then, i met up with cin, nik, bevan, and his friend jimmy from berkeley. he was very cool...friendly and funny and cute! hehe...yes. we all went to lunch at the thai place near my house. then, later, sam came by and hung out with us for a bit. in the evening, i went to a ballet by a traveling russian company...they do modern ballet, which is the coolest!
sunday, the 24th: went to rachel's again...we stayed there all day since my sister and alex went to the ballet. we even managed to watch the oscars after rachel went to sleep. she's so cute! i miss her lots.
monday, the 25th: it was my birthday! i turned 19! hurray! yeah...it wasn't that special or anything...just another day, really. i went out with my whole family, rachel included...we had dim sum...rachel really enjoyed herself with all the new different food. then, sam and toly came over for a while. after toly left, sam and i went to see "monster's ball." i really liked it...halle berry deserved that oscar...it was really well acted. we went to eat and then just hung out. it was nice to just sit around...i miss being able to do that...phones aren't quite the same.
tuesday, the 26th: had a very nice day with my mom. we went to the sf massage school in the morning to find out their summer schedule. so this summer i will get certified as a massage technician! hurray! then, we had yummy lunch at a thai-vietnamese restaurant run by hawaian people...interesting mix, but very yummy. after that, we went for a nice walk. i got my nails done in the evening, and then went dancing again...fun, fun.
wednesday, the 27th: went to the bank, then to work again, then to my grandma's...by the time i met up with sam, i was ultra stressed out from waiting in random lines at the bank and being stuck in traffic and having to deal with messed up data entry. so we just went to ocean beach and sat around...then he got me an espresso tapioca at double rainbow...yum!
thursday, the 28th: cool, cool day! got my hair highlighted (it's actually visible this time!) and straightened, at least temporarily. then, went to stonestown with my mom...she got a jean skirt at gap and lotion from clinique, and i got the clinique free gift...make-up and such. the lipstick is a very good color for my highlights...yes. then, cin and i went out with the navs people that came up from socal. vic chiang (the sf vic) organized it all. cool people came up...joe, sam-who-eats-a-lot, vic chu, pink robbie, carlan, and some people i didn't know. i managed to give driving directions to the metreon...was very proud of myself. we had dinner, then took the cable car to ghirardelli, where we shared an earthquake..cin and i also had hot cocoa. we went back by cable car, at which point my hair got curly again from the wind. then, we drove to double rainbow and stood around drinking tapioca. some of the guys had a tapioca war...tres amusing...it was midnight by the time i got home...my mom was amused. i love that group..they're so great!
friday, the 29th: ran errands in the morning, then saw "a beatiful mind" with sam. my last day in sf...sad. we went to marco polo and got yummy ice cream, then hung out at his place. i won't see him until summer...what a depressing thought. i will probably see all my other friends before that, since nik will fly down in may, and bevan might come down, too. i sat around with my family in the evening, then went to dancing one last time...had a great time! paul was going a bit nuts, and we did a mini show...salsa, of all things...i was cracking up the whole time, but everyone thought it went really well. they say i'm dancing a lot better than last year...i think that's so great! i just need to keep improving and maybe i'll make a better team next year. then i had to pack...very depressing.
saturday, the 30th: flew down in the morning...candy met us and took us shopping, then to her house. in the evening, we went to hang out with her church fellowship...it was rather awful, really. it was suppossed to be just "chill" night, but then they decided to do worship, which made me a little uncomfortable, but not too much. i just sat and kept quiet and had a random convo with God while trying to not get distracted by their singing. we ate and then watched "pay it forward," which i had already seen. at this point, i started getting a headache, and was feeling rather sick, but i was still ok. not everyone was watching the movie, and i was on the edge of the group, so i could hear both the movie and the convo in the next room. in fact, i heard the convo better, since they were pretty loud. they were talking about christianity, and then they started saying how other religions were basically useless and pointless. i was rather annoyed by this, but still not too bad. then, one girl said something about how she knew a jewish girl who whouldn't swear on fridays, but did on all the other days. she was saying how the jews "follow all these arbitrary rules, but they have no meaning and are useless." ok, this was the last straw. i sat for a minute or two more, but then felt so trapped, i just had to go outside. so i spent the rest of the time, over an hour, standing outside the front door. i had a long, tearful convo with God...and i decided that perhaps this coming to sd a day early and having to go to this fellowship thing was just His way of getting me to talk to him and admit that i can't handle stuff on my own. i mean, i don't think i would've done that if i was in sf, at the dance comp. but yeah.
so that was my break up to today. i haven't been doing much...just unpacking, and we're gonna go grocery shopping soon.
revelations of the week:
1) i don't thave a crush on graham crackers anymore, but i am definitely developing one on ralph the second. this is, of course, bad, since there's really no possibility of anything happening, but oh, well. i guess i'll be ok as long as i know not to expect anything to happen.
2) judaism is the right path for me. i'm not sure how exactly this will play out, but i suppose i'll see with time.
3) navs people are unique. i've never met a group quite like them. they must be the only christian group i've ever met that's "other people" friendly.
