crazy weekend
May. 6th, 2002 12:53 pmthis was one insane weekend for me...so eventful! here's a summary.
friday: it started off crummy, but dancing made it all better. it was such hot guy overload...blain was there, and so was this guy named igor. blain was mostly dancing with pam, but igor was talking to the officers and being very funny and flirty. dancing in general is great...it makes everything better. after dancing, greg and i went to plaza to get dinner and had a random convo about tension between the muslim and jewish groups on campus. then, i went to talk to the navs people about fundraising...we'll see what happens with that. after that, i met up with this guy named jason, who's emily-from-hillel's friend, to go to spring fling, the marshall semi-formal. he was a really nice guy...very funny and kinda silly. we had a good time dancing and hanging out with emily and her boyfriend and jason's friends. it really reminded me of high school...i'm not quite sure if that's good or bad, though. i guess i had a good time overall.
saturday: it was navlympics, which is when all these navs people from so. cal. get together and have tournament of sorts. the games included volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and some silly things like a waterballoon throw. i came out to play v-ball, but ended up playing ultimate, too. it was so much fun! i love volleyball...and i love the feeling of being part of a team. it was a little nerve-wracking, though, since evryone was watching us. they were cheering and all, but it was still kinda scary to know that people were there. i guess i don't mind it, since i like performing...it sure made for a lot of adrenaline. ucsd ended up winning the tournament...hooray! i went back home after that while everyone else went to a bonfire. i needed to finish a lab, and i wanted to rest. but later, i got lonely and felt like i should've gone...but it was too late. oh, well.
sunday: ok, this was the craziest day of all. cin and i got up at 5:30 since we needed to be at the bus stop at 6. we actually got out of the room on time and made our bus and all! we bussed it to the amtrak station in solana beach, then took the train to the union station in la, then took a shuttle to the hilton at lax...all this to be runners at emerald ball, a ballroom dance comp. it was well worth it, though...at least for me. we got to see gary and diana mcdonald, james and jaana kunits, joana lunitz and her partner...also tony redpath and michael mead. it was the greatest thing, being around all these dancers...kinda like being around celebrities...'cause in the dance world, they are. it was also fun talking to yolanda and renee link and her friend...or actually, listening to them talk. dance gossip is very random. we had an adventure on the way back...renee's gas gauge is broken, and she had less gas than she thought, so we ran out of gas and were stranded in the middle of the freeway...we were at a really bad place. it was the 5-805 split, so we were on a bridge without a shoulder. we were in the right lane and couldn't go anywhere...i was very freaked out. thankfully, it was 2 in the morning, so there wweren't that many cars on the road. renee's friend has AAA, so she called and they came and brought us gas. it was very nice to finally get home.
so that was my weekend...now i gotta go to office hours for my math TA...midterm on wednesday and i have questions.
