random: i won tickets to alice winterland, which is a concert put on by radio alice. soul asylum and the scissor sisters are playing. so that will be a fun thing for the boy and me. it's this wednesday, which is a bit random, but that's ok. and then on friday, we're going to boy's company's holiday party. so, it's a party sort-of a week.

new zealand itinerary, for those who are interested (can't do an lj-cut, since i'm posting from google docs, but there's nothing after the itinerary, so if you don't care, you can stop reading now and not miss out on anything! heh.):
leave on december 29th
arrive in auckland at 5am on december 31st. spend new year's in auckland, and the 1st. not sure what exactly we'll do there, but we have a list of ideas: kelly tarton's experience (penguins!), auckland museum, explore the university and random neighborhoods, sky city tower
january 2nd and 3rd: waiheke island, with a winery tour and then geeral relaxing on beaches. sounds like there are good walkways for hiking there, too, as well as interesting local art.
january 4th: back to auckland. we'll do the harbour bridge climb (weee! two hour climb, in harnesses, up the side of a bridge!) and whatever other stuff was closed on new year's day.
january 5th: pick up rental car and drive to waitomo, which has glow worm caves (a cave with a river and glow worms on the walls) and dry caves with stalactites and stalagmites and pretty nature stuff. i'm a bit worried about the driving part, since it's the other side of the road. hopefully, we'll be ok at it.
january 6th: drive to matamata, which was hobbiton in lotr. we're doing a hobbiton tour and such, and then driving to rotorua that evening.
january 7th: out of rotorua, day trip to the thermal village to look at geysers and learn about maori culture. also, there will be a hangi, which sounds like the maori version of a luau. cool stuff. exploring rotorua in the evening, i think.
january 8th: day trip to agrodome, with sheep and an organic farm and bungy jumping (for me!) and zorbing (for the boy!), which is where you get put in a gigantic plastic ball with some water in it and then pushed down a grassy hill. yes, we're dorks.
january 9th: drive to tongariro national park, which is where mordor was. we're doing a several hour hike/tour to see mt. doom! and other things, too, but that's the coolest.
january 10th. drive to wellington. no plans for that evening, but we'll probably be too tired from driving to be super active.
january 11th: seeing te papa, which is the national museum, and the national tattoo museum whose name i don't remember. we'll also probably wander about some, but we haven't made any concrete plans.
january 12th: wellington rover tour, which is a full-day tour of all (or most) places around wellington where lotr stuff was filmed. it seems like a really good way to see the city but also get the lotr stuff. i want to bring my cape that cin made for me and take pictures at the "get off the road! quick!" tree. free evening to do whatever.
january 13th: fly to auckland and then home! wee!

so, as it turns out, we don't have a lot of unplanned time. hee. that's totally my tendency to overplan, but i think it'll be good. we have some free evenings to hang out and relax, and besides, we want to see lots of stuff!
