dancingyel | nice shabbat evening

so after a longish and kinda moody day, shabbat was a blessing. services were pleasant as always and i got to hang out with shelley and lilach at dinner, which was great. after the service, a visiting rabbi had a discussion on why he thinks the conservative jews' ban on homosexuality is wrong (he's a conservative, too) and he had some interesting things to say. one of his main points was that the laws on sexuality are in the torah to protect people, especially women, from getting exploited. the point of a sexual relationship in judaism is commitment, and the laws try to emphasize that. however, by banning homosexuality, gays and lesbians are discouraged from having a commited relationship because it isn't sanctioned by the community. yeah. pretty heavy stuff for a friday evening, but it made for an interesting discussion.

plans for tomorrow: i'm gonna go to shul with shelley...i've never been to the one she goes to, so we'll see how that works out. then, emily and i are running couples and demo team practice, which will hopefully be productive. and then...relax, i guess. we'll see what comes up.
