dancingyel | year-in-review, part 1

so, i always do a year-in-review type post, more for myself than anything, since it helps me do an inventory of sorts for the year. this year was very eventful for me, so i guess this will be good.

january: well, that was an interesting month in many ways. got diagnosed with asthma (wtf, mate? didn't know asthma could start at my age, but yeah). my baby niece nicole was born! also, went to ORC (lord of the rings convention) and had a blast. too bad i can't go this year due to logistical issues! and miranda otto is even gonna be there! *cries* but that's ok. maybe next year. but it was so cool to get a picture with billy boyd and pretty elf boys and hang out with avi and have a generally wonderful time! oh, and also started ta-ing for the psych stats honors class, which was good, since it solidified the stats in my head much better. oh, and also? i continued my tradition of doing silly things when i'm in a bad mood and asked my then-crush out. heh.

february: got the first (of many, 16 to be exact) grad school rejection letters. sad, but it's really for the best. nothing else important seems to have happened, as far as i can remember. my lj is also not so helpful for february. i guess i also performed the hip-hop routine for the first time, but i wasn't all that happy about it. looking back on previous years, it was the best of februaries in a while.

march: went to my last day by the shores as an undergrad! *cries*! but it was very cool and awesome, since it was the 10th anniversary, and we got james and jaana and bob and julia to perform at it! and i even got their autographs, and a hug from bob! so yes. good times there. more rejections kept coming in, which was depressing. turned 22, which wasn't as exciting as 21, but birthdays are always fun. straightened my hair! permanently! well, until it all grows out, but almost. also, lost my voice entirely for a few days, and then sounded like a sex hotline operator, all low and husky. heh. also, got into d&d and created my first character!

april: comps galore, as usual. performed at sfo for the last time, performed at vegas for the first time (!), savored time with dancers. got rejected from everything and decided that i would come back to the bay area, which, in retrospect, was the best thing that could have happened. went to disneyland with rachel! that was silly and fun and awesome. also, met mimi and started learning with her, which was really nice. was also very insecure about leaving san diego, but that was normal. also, developed a new and unrealistic crush. heh. glad that worked out in the end, not in terms of the crush going anywhere, but in terms of being friends with the person and things staying un-weird.

may: went to a tiny dance comp in torrance that was the best time ever! thomas and i won 5 events or so, and got second place in smooth 2-dance, which meant that we received a goblet! awesomess, and a good way to end my undergrad competitive career. and then didn't get this job that i really wanted, which was sad on top of all the grad school rejections. but, once again, probably for the best. and finished collecting data for my honors thesis! that was such a relief! spent time doing the job search thing and applying to everything i could think of. crush thing got resolved, in an odd but not-too-awkward way. and then my last dance showcase! sadness! and irena organized a goodbye party for me, which was sweet and sad and such a sign that college was coming to an end! meep!
