it's a very small world

the weirdest thing happened to me today...i'm walking down castro, going grocery shopping, when i hear my name, in russian, being called. now, i had just passed someone who i thought looked maybe vaguely familiar, but i really couldn't place her, so i didn't really try. besides, i was looking forward to getting food and going home to nap. but i heard my name, so i turned around and walked over to the girl, and she says, "do you remember me?" of course, i don't, but to make a long story short, it turns out that we went to first and second grade together, in odessa. how odd is that? and she totally recognized me, too! apparently, i look the same as i did in the first grade photo. awesome. heh.
she was hanging out with her (gay) best friend at a bar called, very appropriately, the bar. i joined them for a nearly 2 hours, chatting and being generally amused. they're both very russian, but also quite nice. and at the very end of the conversation, i mentioned dancing, and the guy, leo, got really excited and said that he has a friend who's one of the top amateur dancers (rene is his name, i've seen him dance) and he (leo) wants to take lessons from him (rene) and do i need a partner and would i like to dance with leo? and i said yes and we exchanged phone numbers and we'll see what happens of it. wow! excitement! and weirdness.
so now i have a headache from the cigarette smoke and phone numbers for a girl with the same name as me from first grade and a gay boy who wants to dance with me. oh, and a business card from a salon where one of leo's friends, who ran into us, works. it's a strange world.

Date: 2006-02-07 09:06 am (UTC)Wait, you live in San Francisco now? I have to admit I added you to my Live Journal friends list after we gave you a ride back down to San Diego after the Yaoi HobbitCon (or whatever you called it), but never really checked your journal. Huh.
Yeah, so Macy and I live in San Francisco now. She lives in Sunset district, I live in Daly City. Taking Conversational Mandarin classes in Castro though (CCSF has a branch campus there in a middle school), so it could have easily been me running into you around there. How weird.
